The success of vintage photography as an NFT asset is mainly due to the provable authenticity provided by blockchain technology. By verifying the ownership and legitimacy of a given photo, NFTs provide a level of security that was previously unavailable. This also allows photographers to create scarcity for their work, choosing edition sizes and creating a level of provenance. In addition, NFTs make it easy to trade, buy, and sell vintage photographs, creating a more fluid market for photography.
